Georgia Auto Insurance Lawyer

The state of Georgia requires automobile drivers to purchase bodily injury liability coverage and property damage liability coverage. At a minimum, the driver must have bodily injury liability coverage of at least $25,000 per person injured in any one accident and $50,000 total for all persons injured in any one accident. Additionally, the driver must have a minimum of $25,000 property damage liability coverage for the destruction of the property of others as a result of an automobile accident. This is often represented as 25/50/25 coverage.

Automobile drivers have the option of purchasing uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage. In Georgia, uninsured motorist coverage includes underinsured motorist coverage. This type of insurance is meant to cover bodily injuries caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver. If a person chooses to purchase uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, the coverage may be purchased in any amount not less than the amount of bodily injury coverage required by law. If coverage is purchased in an amount greater than that required by law, the insured may purchase uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage in an amount equal to or less than the amount of bodily injury coverage purchased.
