Rhode Island Auto Insurance Attorney
The state of Rhode Island requires automobile drivers to purchase bodily injury liability coverage and property damage liability coverage. At a minimum, the driver must have bodily injury liability coverage of at least $25,000 per person injured in any one accident and $50,000 total for all persons injured in any one accident. Additionally, the driver must have a minimum of $25,000 property damage liability coverage for the destruction of the property of others as a result of an automobile accident. This is often represented as 25/50/25 coverage.
Rhode Island is unique in that drivers may choose between a "split limit" and a "single limit" policy. The split limit policy is the 25/50/25 coverage described above. The single limit policy allows policyholders to purchase coverage with a single limit of $75,000 per accident for all damages sustained in that accident.
Automobile drivers must purchase uninsured motorist/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage. This type of insurance is meant to cover bodily injuries caused by an uninsured/underinsured driver. At a minimum, the driver must have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage of at least $25,000 per person injured in any one accident and $50,000 total for all persons injured in any one accident caused by an uninsured/underinsured motorist.
